It had been a while since we last had the opportunity to test the track at the Florida Club in Stuart. So when the offer to get in 18 holes on a beautiful Sunday morning came, we accepted with excited anticipation.

The Florida Club has just gone through a 10-month renovation, and the results are nothing short of fantastic.

They are now billing the course as the “New and Improved” Florida Club, and even that may be an understatement.

They liken themselves to an old Florida golf course, but there are times when you almost forget that you are in Florida. Cart paths that lead though a trail of large trees and the rolling fairways and greens almost take you to a place more often seen up north.

This “New and Improved” course is one of the finest public courses that you will ever get a chance to play. For the serious or even not-so-serious golfer, this course is as close as you will get to play without shelling out several thousand dollars for a private club membership at the PGA level.

Granted, the course just started offering rounds last Saturday, so it hasn’t weathered a lot of beatings, but the crew at TFC knows what it’s doing and will be able to keep the course in excellent condition.

The renovated course offers five tee boxes ranging from 5,000 to 7,000 yards, so golfers of any skill level will feel comfortable. The wide fairways, lined with ancient large oaks, stately pine trees and palmettos, allow for a slight mishit if needed. The fairways and tee boxes are lush Celebration grass and the Tif Eagle greens are sure to test your skills. It reminded our foursome of the pristine greens that you see on the tour. It was really great fun. The course tests you for sure, but the greens run as true as any we have played, and if you hit it right, it will reward you.

All of the greens were redone and most enlarged. They are some of the biggest greens we had ever seen and they were all beautiful.

For all you golfers here in St Lucie West and Tradition, it is well worth the 20-minute drive down I-95 to experience this truly original course. You won’t be disappointed.
